MSME Classification Criteria

As per the Gazette Notification S.O. 1364 (E) dated March 21, 2025, enterprises are classified based on the following composite criteria of investment and turnover:

Udyam Registration Process

Follow these steps to register your enterprise on the Udyam Registration Portal:

  1. Visit Official Portal: Go to udyam.gov.in and click on 'Register Now'.
  2. Enter Aadhaar Number: Provide the Aadhaar number of the proprietor, managing partner, or karta (for proprietorship, partnership, or HUF).
  3. OTP Verification: Receive OTP on registered mobile number for verification.
  4. Fill Details: Enter the enterprise name, PAN, GSTIN, and other business details.
  5. Self-Declaration: Declare the investment and turnover details (no documents required).
  6. Submit Application: Submit the application online.
  7. Receive Udyam Registration Number: Upon successful submission, a permanent Udyam Registration Number is generated.
  8. Download Certificate: The Udyam Registration Certificate is issued online with a dynamic QR code.

The MSME SAMADHAAN portal (samadhaan.msme.gov.in ) is a government initiative to address delayed payments to MSMEs.

Key Provisions

  • Under the MSMED Act, buyers must pay MSMEs within 15 days (if no agreement) or 45 days (if written agreement).
  • If payment is delayed, the buyer must pay interest at 3 times the RBI bank rate (compounded monthly).
  • MSMEs can file online applications on the SAMADHAAN portal for recovery of delayed payments.
  • The portal is integrated with the Udyam Registration system.
